Introduction

Artificial intelligence is changing how psychological knowledge is created, accessed and applied. The Artificial Intelligence Division provides a space for PsySSA members to engage with these developments and consider what they mean for psychology in South Africa. The Division promotes informed, ethical and inclusive engagement with AI while supporting psychologists to participate in shaping how these technologies are used across practice, research, education and psychological services.

Who we are

The Artificial Intelligence Division brings together psychologists interested in the responsible, ethical and human-centred use of artificial intelligence in psychology. We provide a space for dialogue, learning and collaboration around emerging technologies and their implications for psychological practice, research, education and society. The Division supports the profession in engaging critically and constructively with a rapidly changing digital landscape.

What we do

Our work focuses on five areas:

Education and Awareness: Building psychologists’ understanding of AI, its applications and its implications for the profession.
Ethics and Guidelines: Contributing to standards for responsible AI use that prioritise ethical practice, client welfare and privacy.
Research and Collaboration: Supporting research and collaboration between psychology, AI specialists and related disciplines.
Accessibility and Inclusivity: Promoting equitable approaches to AI that can contribute to improved access to psychological services.
Community Building: Creating a professional space for members to exchange knowledge, experiences and good practice.
