Statement on the Arrest of Professor Dr Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian – (AMENA-Psy)
The American Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African Psychological Association (AMENA-Psy), alongside the Palestinian Feminist Collective and numerous academics, expresses deep dismay over the arrest and detention of esteemed feminist socio-legal scholar and children's rights advocate, Professor Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian, on April 18, 2024. Dr. Shalhoub-Kevorkian’s apprehension from her residence stems from an ongoing suppression of free speech and an unjust suspension by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem over the past seven months.

Extension of HPCSA Professional Board Nominations
The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) has extended its call for nominations to serve on its Professional Boards for the 2025–2030 term. All HPCSA-registered practitioners are encouraged to nominate eligible candidates (self-nominations will not be accepted). The deadline for submissions is 31 July 2025.

PsySSA would like to highlight a recent HPCSA reminder for all health practitioners. Those not yet CPD-compliant have until 30 June 2025 to rectify their status to avoid penalties. If you've recently submitted CPD information, there's no need to resubmit, as it's being processed.
Key Points:
CPD compliance requires 30 points (25 clinical, 5 ethical) within a 12-month cycle.
CPD points are valid for 12 months from the activity date.
Check your status and download your compliance letter via the HPCSA self-service portal.
