CPD Compliance – 5 June 2025 – HPCSA Notice

Health Professions Council of South Africa | eBulletin | 5 June 2025

Dear Stakeholder

The Professional Board for Psychology would like to thank practitioners who are CPD compliant. Those who are not yet CPD compliant, have until 30 June 2025 to correct their compliance status. The following changes relate to the latest amendments made on the Rules Relating to the Continuing Development Programme (CPD):

  • All community service practitioners are exempted from CPD obligations.
  • The actual annual number of CPD points required to be compliant are listed on both the CPD Rules and CPD guidelines, indicating minimum requirements for both clinical and ethical points.
  • Each CPD point is now valid for 12 months from the date on which the activity took place. This means that health practitioners should at all material times maintain the minimum balance of CPD points required for a year, topping-up on an ongoing basis.
  • Non-clinical registered practitioners are also required to be CPD compliant in line with the set minimum requirements.

It is the role of HPCSA to amend the Rules Relating to the Continuing Development Programme and not the Board, these Rules apply to all practitioners registered with the HPCSA.

Click here for instructions on how to view and update your CPD status.

All the best

De-Toxify Our Workplaces – June 2025

De-Toxify Our Workplaces – June 2025

As health professionals, it is not only incumbent on us to be role models of ethical behaviour and safeguard human rights, but to also to help build ethical and humane workplaces. This is after all where most working adults spend the bulk of their productive time. To enable positive outcomes, we need to upskill health care professionals in diagnosis and prognosis of toxic workplaces. We look at this topic through 3 lenses: individual, team and the organisation.

Defn: Toxic behaviour is behaviour that is harmful to an organization, including either its property, reputation, or people.

Toxic by its very nature implies that this behaviour is both contagious and bad for others. Prof Dylan’s Minors team showed that if someone is influenced by toxic colleagues, that person is then 50% more likely to become toxic, too. One Cornerstone On Demand report found that good employees were 54 % more likely to leave when forced to deal with a toxic co-worker.
