Shaazia Patel

Shaazia is a registered Psychometrist with extensive experience and knowledge in the assessment-related field. She is actively involved in various community volunteer projects. She is currently in the process of creating a project for pro-bono career assessments for those who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Shaazia is passionate about sharing her knowledge and helping others and has been a mentor for the PsySSA Student Division National Mentorship Programme for several years. Her love for animals and helping people is leading her to attain her Master’s qualification to work within the Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy field.

Dr Adele Munsami

Dr Adele Munsami

Dr Adele Munsami is a registered Research Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). She holds a Master’s degree in Research Psychology from UKZN and a PhD in Neuropsychology from the University of Cape Town. Dr Munsami has extensive experience in coordinating longitudinal and cohort research studies as well as clinical trials. In her academic role, she teaches within the Psychology discipline and supervises students across Honours, Master’s, and PhD levels. She is a deputy chair of the UKZN Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (HSSREC) and also serves as a research associate/ scientist on various research studies. Her research interests lie in cognitive development, and she is particularly committed to promoting the relevance and application of research across all categories of psychology.

Siphelele Nguse

Siphelele Nguse is a clinical psychologist. He trained at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is currently in pursuit of a PhD focusing on the psychological effects of student activism. His areas of interest include the intersection of psychology and politics, public mental health, masculinity.

Dr Sibusiso Maseko

Dr Sibusiso Maseko

Dr. Sibusiso Maseko is a lecturer at the University of South Africa’s department of psychology and registered research psychologist. He earned his doctorate degree in Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2023. Drawing on South Africa’s history of settler colonialism, his broad research agenda focuses on how White South Africans assert themselves as natives to maintain a sense of territorial entitlement. His current research examines how White South Africans mobilize autochthony and collective nostalgia to defend their ownership of settler colonial territory and to maintain racial inequality.

Dr. Karl Swain

Dr. Karl Swain

Karl Swain is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist. He is currently the acting Head of Discipline of the Department of Behavioural Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. Karl served two terms as the Chairperson for the South African Society for Clinical Psychology (SASCP), after a term as Secretary. Additionally, he has served for two terms as the Vice Chairperson for PsySSA’s Division of Neuropsychology and Forensic Psychology. Karl is currently the Chairperson of the Durban Practicing Psychologists Group (DPPG) and Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Branch of PsySSA. His research and clinical interests include neuropsychology and traumatic stress.
