PsySSA Student Division National Mentorship Programme Awards, 2020

On Thursday, 3 December, the PsySSA Student Division’s National Mentorship Programme held its annual awards ceremony to celebrate the closing of the programme and recognise the class of 2020.

The awards were held virtually, at PsySSA’s head office, with programme director, Ms Andrea Jacobs (Educational Psychologist and Executive Committee Member of SEPSA); guest speaker Ms Fatima Seedat (PsySSA Executive Director), and Mx Sharni Ngakane (2019 National Mentorship Programme Personal Growth Award recipient in Gauteng, Student Representative for the Division for Research and Methodology, and 2021 Clinical Psychology Masters Student).

Ms Seedat discussed her history with PsySSA and the impact of mentoring on her career, as a PhD student and as the Executive Director of PsySSA, her experiences highlight the significant effect of mentoring on one’s academic and professional career.

Mx Sharni Ngakane discussed her journey during the National Mentorship Programme 2019, and the impact of the programme on her personal and academic career. Mx Ngakane is about to embark on her Clinical Psychology Master’s degree at the University of the Witswatersrand and laid emphasis on how the NMP contributed to her Master’s journey.

Ms Genevieve Burrow (National Mentorship Programme Chairperson) announced the provincial awards. Mr Muhammed Yaeesh Cassim (Executive Portfolio Holder) announced the national awards, followed by his closing speech and vote of thanks.

The PsySSA Student Division National Mentorship Programme extends its sincere gratitude to PsySSA, and Ms Fatima Seedat, for their ongoing support and encouragement.
