Jacques Pretorius is a clinical psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He has worked in various private and public sectors of mental health, including both private and government psychiatric settings. Currently, Jacques is a full-time lecturer in the Department of Clinical Psychology at SMU where he is involved in training undergraduate and postgraduate students who are pursuing degrees in clinical psychology, psychiatry, and medicine. His clinical and research interests include postmodern epistemology, medical psychology, and the philosophy & ethics of mental health and psychopathology. He has authored scientific publications and has attended and spoken at local and international congresses.

Barry Viljoen is a Clinical Psychologist working in the public sector. He is involved in academics in terms of training. His areas of interests are child and adolescent psychology, psychology within forensic settings, assessment, and critical disability studies. He is currently completing his Dpsych in Child and Adolescent Psychology.

Anne Kramers-Olen obtained her Masters degree in Social Science (Clinical Psychology) from the then named University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg campus). She completed her internship at the Midlands Hospital Complex in Pietermaritzburg during 1998 and is currently employed at Fort Napier Hospital. She has worked in the public and private sector, and has published papers in the area of ethics, forensics, intellectual disability and psychosocial rehabilitation. She is an associate editor of the South African Journal of Psychology and honorary lecturer at the Department of Behavioural Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Sharon Kleintjes completed a MA Clinical Psychology (UCT, 1991); an MPhil in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (UCT, 2004), a Diploma in Strategic Health Management (Foundation for Professional Development, Pretoria, SA, 2004) and a PhD (UCT, 2012). Sharon worked in the Western Cape Provinceās Department of Health as a clinical psychologist and programme manager for mental health (1990-2004), a research manager at the HSRC (2004-2006), and as a researcher (2006-2010) and postgraduate course convener (2011) in the Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health, UCT before her appointment as principal psychologist at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, Cape Town (2012-18). She was appointed as the Vera Grover Chair and Professor of Intellectual Disability in the Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health at UCT in March 2018. Her primary research interest is in public mental health policy and service development and service user involvement in their recovery.
