Jacques Pretorius

Jacques Pretorius

Jacques Pretorius is a clinical psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He has worked in various private and public sectors of mental health, including both private and government psychiatric settings. Currently, Jacques is a full-time lecturer in the Department of Clinical Psychology at SMU where he is involved in training undergraduate and postgraduate students who are pursuing degrees in clinical psychology, psychiatry, and medicine. His clinical and research interests include postmodern epistemology, medical psychology, and the philosophy & ethics of mental health and psychopathology. He has authored scientific publications and has attended and spoken at local and international congresses.

Barry Viljoen

Barry Viljoen

Barry is a clinical psychologist who has experience in working within both the private and state sectors in primary, secondary and tertiary settings. These have been in correctional and rehabilitative contexts. He has presented at several conference both internationally and locally on a variety of topics. His focus is primarily on working with children and adolescents, however, not exclusively to. His areas of special interest are behavioural problems, trauma, family and parenting challenges, substance use and abuse difficulties, chronic pain management, life stage adjustment difficulties, neuropsychology in rehabilitative and forensic contexts.

Anne Kramers-Olen

Anne Kramers-Olen obtained her Masters degree in Social Science (Clinical Psychology) from the then named University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg campus). She completed her internship at the Midlands Hospital Complex in Pietermaritzburg during 1998 and is currently employed at Fort Napier Hospital. She has worked in the public and private sector, and has published papers in the area of ethics, forensics, intellectual disability and psychosocial rehabilitation. She is an associate editor of the South African Journal of Psychology and honorary lecturer at the Department of Behavioural Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Prof Sharon Kleintjes

Prof Sharon Kleintjes

Sharon Kleintjes, BSoc Sci, MA(Clinical Psychology), MPhil (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry), DPhil (University of Cape Town), is a registered clinical psychologist working in public mental health research and services in South Africa since 1991. She worked in substance abuse education and training for the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (WCP) during the 1980s, as a clinical psychologist within public health settings during the early 1990s, and as the provincial programme manager for mental health and substance abuse in the Western Cape Department of Health (WC DOH) from 1997-2004. She worked as a research manager at the Human Science Research Council (2004-2006) and a public mental health researcher within the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health (DPMH) at UCT (2006-2010). She convened the inception year of the UCT Postgraduate Diploma in Addictions Care and was co-head of the Division of Addiction within the DPMH (2011-2012). She has been jointly appointed to the Western Cape DOH and the DPMH at UCT as Head of Psychology at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital (2012-2018) and currently as the Vera Grover Chair and Professor of Intellectual Disability in DPMH at UCT since 2018 . Her research interests include recovery –oriented public mental health policy and service development for people with psychosocial disability and intellectual disability, and the participation of people with psychosocial and intellectual disability in public health decision-making affecting their wellbeing and recovery.

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology at the University of Fort Hare, building on my academic foundation in understanding human behavior in organizational settings. Professionally, I have recently had the privilege of serving as HR Support Lead at an international company, focusing on People Operations, where I gained hands-on experience in supporting employee well-being, engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
My passion for psychology and workplace developmentwas ignited during my HR internship, where I realized my drive to contribute meaningfully to creating healthy, productive, and thriving work environments. I am particularly interested in leveraging psychological principles to enhance employee experience, engagement, and overall organizational culture.
I am committed to continuous learning, contributing to evidence-based practices in HR and Industrial Psychology, and making workplaces more human-centered and supportive.
