The South African Career Development Association (SACDA) hosted the inaugural Career Development Practitioners Congress and launch of the African Journal of Career and Development (AJCD) at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Johannesburg on 24 June 2019. The Congress was organized and opened by the CEO: SACDA, Mr Chris Beukes. The programme included conferring the first Professional Designation for Career Development Practitioners, titled “Career Information Officer”. Congress keynotes included Deputy Minister Buti Manamela from the Department of Higher Education, Science, and Technology; Prof. Kobus Maree (Editor-in-Chief: AJCD); Dr Mary McMahon from the University of Queensland in Australia; Ms Jan Ellis from the Career Development Institute in the United Kingdom, Prof. Mark Watson from the Nelson Mandela University, and Prof. Anthony Pillay, past president of PsySSA. The inaugural AJCD edition is a special UNESCO UNITWIN edition, titled ‘Career Development in Developing Country Contexts: A Conduit to Facilitate Sustainable Decent Work for All’.
