CaSP Annual Seed Grant Competition 2025 – Call for Nominations Now Open!

Dear CaSP Members,

We’re excited to announce the launch of the 2025 CaSP Seed Grant Competition – now in its sixth successful year of supporting community-driven change!

This year, we’re evolving the format to deepen our impact. Instead of awarding an individual, we invite CaSP members to nominate a non-profit organisation that embodies the values of community psychology and is working to advance psychosocial well-being in their communities.

We are offering up to R6,000 to support the implementation of a community-orientated project that is proactive, relevant, and grounded in social justice — echoing our shared commitment to ethical and transformative praxis.

Deadline for nominations: 30 August 2025
Please refer to the attached Call for Nominations for full details and eligibility criteria.

If you have any questions or need support with your nomination, feel free to contact the CaSP Executive Committee directly at casp@psyssa.com

Let’s continue to uplift communities through collaborative and socially responsive psychology.

Warm regards,
The CaSP Executive Committee

PsySSA Congratulates Prof. Kobus Maree

PsySSA extends its congratulations to Professor Kobus Maree—Fellow of PsySSA, Former Editor of the South African Journal of Psychology (SAJP), and Past Executive Committee Member—on his recent publication: a record-setting review of Erikson’s Identity Theory, featured by the University of Pretoria.

This contribution advances psychological theory and highlights the relevance of South African research in global academic discourse.

Professor Maree’s work, both scholarly and through his longstanding involvement with PsySSA, continues to support the growth and impact of psychology in South Africa and beyond.

Mandela Day 2025!

Mandela Day 2025!

PsySSA Commemorates Mandela Day 2025!

It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity

On Mandela Day 2025, PsySSA honours the enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela, whose vision of justice, dignity, and equality continues to guide our work as psychologists.

This year’s theme, “It’s Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequity,” calls on us to take meaningful action to address the psychological impact of poverty, especially in a country still grappling with deep social and economic divides.

Psychologists have a vital role to play in:

  • Promoting mental health equity and access in underserved communities,
  • Addressing the psychological effects of poverty and trauma,
  • Using our tools to build resilience and dignity in those most affected by injustice.

We invite you to see how PsySSA’s Community and Social Psychology Division (CASP) is leading this year’s Mandela Day campaign—highlighting community action, advocacy, and practical tools for psychologists to make a difference.

“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” – Nelson Mandela

Let us honour his legacy by putting our values into action.
