Requirements

The candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist, with a minimum of 6 years relevant clinical experience (inclusive of community service, if applicable). The candidate must be able to provide and oversee psychological services for a wide range of patients across various highly specialised units and programs. S/he must be adept at working with multidisciplinary teams and using different therapeutic modalities. S/he must be experienced in the use and supervision of various psychometric assessments. In addition, knowledge, skills and experience are required in the following areas: • The supervision of other psychologists • Clinical and didactic teaching • The Mental Health Care Act and other relevant laws and policies • Communication, administration and leadership The candidate must be computer literate and in possession of a valid driver’s licence.

Duties

As the Head of the Psychology Department at Tara Hospital, the candidate will be responsible to plan, manage and oversee psychological services in the institution. S/he will also provide a clinical service within one of the treatment units of the Hospital. The candidate will be a joint appointee of the Department of Psychiatry, University of the Witwatersrand. S/he will coordinate and participate in the training and supervision of psychology interns, junior psychologists, psychiatric registrars, medical students, nurses and other allied health staff, in addition to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University. S/he will be involved in promoting, conducting and supervising research projects. The candidate will serve on the Extended Management Team of the Hospital and participate on some of the hospital committees. S/he will also collaborate with various relevant external organisations and stakeholders.
