Prof. Elmarí Deacon is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor at the North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. She is currently the acting Director in the School of Psychosocial Health and work within the Optentia Research Unit. Her research interests include the psychosocial variables influencing diabetes management, positive psychology, therapy with children and cognitive behaviour therapy. She is the principal investigator in the Smile with Diabetes project, within which topics such as social support, meaning making and illness perception of adolescents and young adults living with diabetes have been investigated.
