Thembisile Dlamini

Thembisile Dlamini (she/her) is an intern clinical psychologist at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology candidate at UNISA. A proud alumnus of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), she earned a Certificate in Public Management in 2017, honing her leadership and advocacy skills. Transitioning from a 14-year career in finance, Thembisile is committed to providing culturally sensitive mental health care and addressing systemic barriers for marginalized groups, including LGBTIQA+ individuals, women, and children. Her work reflects a dedication to creating equitable, inclusive spaces for healing and empowerment.

Nkanyiso Madlala, B. Soc Sci (Summa cum laude) UKZN, Hons (Cum laude), M. Soc Sci (Clinical Psychology), PhD candidate (UNISA). Currently employed as a clinical psychologist at the Department of Correctional Services. LGBTQI+ affirmative therapist and activist.

Dr. Lindokuhle Ubisi (PhD) is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Africa. His research interests are mainly within the psychology of sexual minorities, including the sexuality of children, LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as persons with various disabilities.

Dr. Angeline Stephens

Dr. Angeline Stephens (PhD) works in student mental health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her work is informed by feminist, critical and decolonial approaches to psychological praxis that recognises the interconnectedness between persons and contexts. She is particularly interested in the intersections of gender, sexuality, violence, citizenship and work with marginalised people.

Prof. Juan Nel

Prof. Juan Nel

Prof. Juan A. Nel (DLitt et Phil) is a registered clinical and research psychologist, a Research Professor of Psychology at the University of South Africa (Unisa) and a rated researcher with recognised expertise in LGBTI+ mental health and well-being, hate crimes and victim empowerment and support, more generally. Juan is a former President of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) (2014-2015), former member of its Council, co-representative on the International Psychology Network for LGBTI Concerns (IPsyNet) and leader of a project aimed at positioning PsySSA as regional hub towards promotion of the well-being and human rights of LGBTI+ persons in Africa.
