Letter to the Editor

International Cross Cultural Mental Health Study

I am writing to ask for your help in gathering international contacts for participation in my thesis via an on-line survey. This study of adolescent mental health has been in progress for almost two years and will culminate in May 2002 with the completion of my thesis. I am currently a senior at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Basically, I am studying the different attitudes of adolescent mental health across cultures. More specifically, I am asking adolescents, parents, and mental health professionals to complete professionally translated surveys in an attempt to better understand how mental health is conceived and valued across groups and across cultures.

During my extensive travels to over 11 countries last Spring, I had an opportunity to collect data from adolescents and parents. Currently, I am asking for support from mental health professionals in several countries. Participation by colleagues in your country would take no more than 7-10 minutes, and is on-line at http://www.students.bucknell.edu/ epgreen/survey/ (the password is password).
