CONGRESS 2002 IN CAPE TOWN
This year's Congress, which is fully CPD accredited, has attracted great interest from throughout the country and some leading overseas presenters. Deputy President, the Hon Jacob Zuma, will do the official opening and Deputy Education Minister, Mr Mosibudi Mangena, will be a keynote speaker as will Judge Eberhard Bertelsman, who will address court-related testimony and psychological reports. There will be dedicated divisional tracks such as for Students, SASCH and DRM. A highlight is a Science of Psychology panel discussion with Mr Robert Krige, Head: International Science Liaison at the National Research Foundation and Professor Tokozile V Mayekiso, Head: School of Human & Community Development at the University of the Witswatersrand. Another panel on "Perception and Images portrayed in Popular Media" includes Mr Mathata Tshedu, Chair: SA National Editors Forum and Mr Ivan Finn, the Cape Times Editor. Specialised CPD accredited workshops (covering important issues affecting psychologists like ethics, forensics, neuropsychology and testing) will be held before and during Congress. According to PsySSA President, Dr Ann Watts, "Members still have the opportunity to present and participate at Congress, while networking and otherwise enjoying themselves, at the major psychology event on the African continent". This 8th Annual South African Psychology Congress will be held at the University of the Western Cape during 24-27 September. The deadline for abstracts is 31 May and the next issue of PsyTalk will include the programme.
