CONGRESS 2002 IN CAPE TOWN 8th Annual SA Psychology Congress Plans for Congress are in full swing. Congress will be held at the University of Western Cape, 24-27 September. There is an exciting and interesting line-up of key-note and guest speakers, which will include representatives from key government departments and institutions, as well as from the three Universities in the Western Cape. There will be international representation and the President of the British Psychological Society has been invited to attend. The main speaker will be Dr Robert Sternberg who will deliver the Decade of Behaviour Lecture on “Successful Intelligence”. Dr Sternberg, who is Professor of Psychology at Yale University, is one of the candidates running for the presidency of the APA. Plans are underway to have presentations via video link-up by at least one “big name”. We are hoping that this will be Phil Zimbardo, the eminent social scientist who is President-Elect of the APA. PsySSA President, Dr Ann Watts, says ”I would like to encourage as many members as possible to both attend the Congress and to make some form of presentation. This will not only earn you CPD points, but will also facilitate the sharing of ideas and work occurring within the South African psychological community, and hence facilitate discussion of important issues and ways of dealing with them. The Annual South African Psychology Congress is the event on the national psychology calendar, and attracts interest from psychologists in practice and academe in this country and abroad.” Exciting workshops, symposia, divisional meetings and networking opportunities are being catered for at both formal and social levels.
