Membership is at an all time high and approximately one in two Psychologists now belong to PsySSA.

Council approved an expansion of the Tariffs Committee to include private practice issues, as the majority of PsySSA members are private practitioners. Ms Lindi Maseko will continue to head the committee that is now called Tariffs and Practice Issues Standing Committee.

Council approved the formation of a Public Service Issues Standing Committee which will be facilitated by Prof Charles Malcolm.

Council approved the granting of divisional status to the Neuropsychology Interest Group as soon as membership reaches 50.

Council approved the formation of two new interest groups: Schools Counselling and Teaching Psychology.

Council resolved that Dr Kopano Ratele would head up the Equity and Redress Standing Committee and Mr Umesh Bawa Ethics.

In order to facilitate membership activity and development, particularly in outlying areas, Council approved the formation of units of Branches, provided that each unit comprises a minimum of five members.

Congratulations to Ms Maseko and her team on the Tariffs and Practice Issues Standing Committee: the BHF is to increase rates by at least 8% next year and have agreed to stop medical practitioners from claiming for psychotherapy.

Ten internships (four clinical, four counselling and two educational) have been approved by the Board at the PsySSA Counselling Clinic on the Phelophepa Health Train.

Prof Norman Duncan will take over editorship of the SAJP from Prof de la Rey. New editorial board members are Proff Mark Watson. Dee Luiz, Lourens Schlebusch, Kevin Durrheim and Dr Kajee.

Dr Watts is presently negotiating with the Compensation Commissioner regarding tariffs for Psychologists and the inclusion of Psychologists in relevant panels and diagnostic processes. Watch the newsletter for an update on this.




Norwegian Psychological Society to visit South Africa ! !


Early in the new year the President of the Norwegian Psychological Society and her entourage will be in the country and members will be invited to attend seminars in certain cities.

The PsySSA CPD schedule will be announced early in the year and members are encouraged to contribute to divisional and branch activities in their areas.

Remember that PsySSA has an award for the most active division and branch. Yours could be next!
