PSYCHOLOGIST IS VICE PRESIDENT OF HPCSA


On 9 April, just before the Basson acquittal, history was made when the first non-medical/dental practitioner was elected as Vice President of the Health Professions Council of SA. Chairperson of the Professional Board for Psychology, Dr Saths Cooper, was elected in a two-way race, becoming the first psychologist to assume this office at a time of great public and political scrutiny of the health professions. Prof Andre Moller, Head of Psychology at Stellenbosch University, described this appointment as "An honour for psychology and Dr Cooper". PsySSA President Dr Ann Watts told PsyTalk that it was a sign of the increasing recognition of the profession and that there would be great expectation of change from both health professionals and the public

Original oral and poster presentations, symposia, workshop and panel presentations, which have not been presented before, are invited. These may be scientific or practice-orientated, and should be electronically submitted to congress@PsySSA.com before 31 May 2002.
